Description

Strataderm – the silicone gel for professional scar therapy.

Strataderm is a rapidly drying, non-sticky, transparent, silicone gel formulation for the treatment of both old and new scars as well as abnormal scar prevention, in the form of hypertrophic scars and keloids.

Strataderm dries to form a silicone gel sheet, a protective layer that is gas permeable and waterproof which hydrates and protects scars from chemical and microbial invasion, allowing scars to normalize the collagen synthesis cycles, producing a normal mature scar.

Strataderm is used to soften and flatten scars, relieve the itching and discomfort of scars as well as reduce redness and discoloration associated with scars.

Strataderm is easily applied to all areas of the skin, including exposed areas like the face and neck as well as joints and hairy areas without the need for shaving.

Strataderm was developed for use on all types of scars including those resulting from general surgery, trauma, chronic wounds, burns, bites, acne and other diseases of the skin.

Strataderm is ideal for people with sensitive skin and for children.

Why treat scars?

According to statistics of the U.S. government, Americans have an estimated 840 million scars, of which 169 million are hypertrophic or keloid, and they develop about 62 million new scars each year. Current global numbers are unknown but doubtless much higher.

Scars are often considered trivial, but they can be disfiguring and aesthetically unpleasant and cause severe itching, tenderness, pain, sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, and disruption of daily activities. Other psychosocial consequences include development of post-traumatic stress reactions, loss of self esteem, and stigmatisation, leading to diminished quality of life. Physical deformity as a result of skin scar contractures can also be functionally disabling.1

Scar treatment and prevention

Scars to date, cannot be removed completely, but with an effective treatment and good patient compliance a scar appearance and its side effects can be improved significantly in most cases. In addition, the likelihood of abnormal scar formation can be reduced effectively, if treatment starts shortly after wound closure.
